WISDOM’S CORNER: No. 1: “IF YOU LOOK FOR WISDOM EVERYDAY YOU WILL FIND PEACE OF MIND.”

Today we are facing many challenges, such as, fear, injustice and uncertainty.  Somewhere in the world we are aware that someone is being killed because of some irrational thinkers who are set on destruction.  Each day, somewhere in the world, we mourn the demise of family, friends or neighbors. We wail in fear and sorrow when we view the internet, television or listen to the radio, because we have discovered that someone has been unjustly killed by some form of weaponry.  Ours nations are facing economic disasters.  People are starving to death and homeless.  Seniors citizens who have worked all their lives now find out their pensions are no longer available or enough for them to survive on.  How do we find wisdom in all of this worldly madness?  How do we find peace of mind? We must first ask the leading question.  Where is wisdom?

Wisdom is the spirit we must look for if we are to find peace of mind.  What is stopping us from finding wisdom? For starters, each day, the first spirit we encounter is fear.  We turn on the television, listen to the radio or surf the internet, which clothes us with fear to start our day. The news reports are bursting with chaos and mayhem and our hearts are now saturated in fear.  The heavy dose of fear, results in a loss of our personal freedom to be joyful and have peace of mind.  We have allowed the spirit fear to be our master, because we have failed to seek wisdom to defeat fear. How is it that we fear, fear? The wrong fear takes away our peace of mind. Here is the answer to fear: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”  (I John 4:18). Love cancels out fear.  Each morning when we rise we should seek the will of God, who is the very expression of love.  We should start our day by reading the Holy Bible and praying, which is wisdom. Do not give priority to chaos and fear.  I do not say, ignore the movement of society, but I do say, do not let it determine our peace of mind.  We can have peace of mind and still walk through the storms of life. “Peace be still.”

There are two very close kindred spirits that we do not consider when great injustices have been done to our families, friends or country.  Wisdom and Justice are bonded together to render the final decree upon those who have designed deception and self-righteousness as their tools to vindicate injustice.  Many have marched and protested about bias verdicts and imbalance justice.  The cries of grieving families and students are smothered in galleries of social demonstrations.  Wisdom and Justice have heard every cry and capsuled every tear that has been shed.  Wisdom and Justice have not ignored one single injustice in this world.  “Evil men understand not judgement: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.” (Proverbs 28:5).  Again, we must acknowledge that through wisdom we will understand why there is injustice.  Evil men will always render injustice.  Seek the Lord for understanding and He will give you perfect peace!

What certainties can we rely on in the world today?  I have heard many say that death and taxes are a “shoe in”.  The truth is we cannot be certain of anything that is produced by human hands.  We are powerless when it comes to certainty.  What power do we have to make the sun rise or set?  Does any man have the power to make it rain?  Has there been a cure for all diseases?  When it comes to total peace on earth, man is helpless. Because sin, not love, rules the hearts of many.  God is where we will find peace of mind. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7).

Nontheless, we look for peace of mind every place, except where she can be found.  Wisdom is not found in a cup of coffee, although the hot cup of coffee perks us up to face the day.  Only to let us crash in mid-stream and then we will need another cup to keep us going a little while longer. Another unfortunate place we seek wisdom is through our money.  I have read about many wealthy people who are not satisfied with their wealth at all.  In fact, the more wealth one has the more miserable they are.  They cannot sleep because they are afraid of losing their wealth and becoming poor.  Many believe wisdom is found at the surgeon’s office.  They tuck and snip their bodies trying to project an image of perfection and eternal youth.  This is not wisdom, because the internal organs are still aging and dying.  I can go on and on, but I will allow the reader to examine their own journey for a false sense of peace.  False peace is short lived and unfulfilling.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:17).  If we are going to have peace of mind, then we should not be afraid of what man can do to us, but what God can do to us.  The fear of the Lord means to honor His power and authority as our creator and acknowledge Him.  Until we acknowledge that God is our creator, and not the “theory of evolution”, we will not have peace of mind! I have learned in my years that faith is a choice.  Either you believe in God or you do not.  If you do believe in Jesus Christ, you will come to know that God is in fact real.  Here is where we receive peace of mind.  However, if you choose to reject the truth, then my dear friend, you will never have peace of mind!
