Wisdom’s Corner No. 42: Fear the Lord

“Those who fear the Lord will live, because they have put their trust in the one who can save them.  Fear the Lord, and you will have nothing else to fear.  If your trust is in him, you will never act like a coward.  People who fear the Lord are fortunate, because they know where they can look for help.  He  watches over those who love him; he is their strong protection and and firm support.  He shelters them from the heart, shades them from the noonday sun, and keeps them from stumbling and falling.  He makes them cheerful and puts a sparkle in their eyes.  He blesses them with life and health.”

Wisdom’s Corner No. 41: Warning against Pagan Influences

“Do not try to work together as equals with unbelievers for it cannot be done.  How can right and wrong be partners?  How can light and darkness live together?  How can Christ and the Devil agree?  What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?  How can God’s temple come to terms with pagan idols? For we are the temple of the living God!  As God himself has said,

‘I will make my home with my people and live among them.

I will be their God and they shall be my people.’

And so the Lord says,

‘You must leave them and separate yourselves from them.

Have nothing to do with what is unclean, and I will accept you.

I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’

All these promises are made to us, my dear friends.  So then, let us purity ourselves from everything that makes body or soul unclean, and let us be completely holy by living in awe of God.”

2 Corinthians 6

Wisdom’s Corner No. 40: The Coming Disasters

“The Lord says, ‘Proclaim to my people the prophetic messages that I will give you, and then have them written down, because they are true and will be fulfilled.  Do not be afraid of those who plot against you or be disturbed by their unbelief.  All unbelievers will die because of their unbelief.’

The Lord says, ‘I am going to brings terrible disasters on the whole world–war and famine, death and destruction, because wickedness has spread everywhere, and evil has reached its limit.’

Therefore, ‘The Lord says, ‘I will no longer remain silent about the wickedness of these godless people; I will no longer tolerate it.  The have murdered innocent people, and the blood they have spilled cries out to me for revenge; the souls of the righteous are constantly pleading for vengeance.  Let there be no doubt.’  says the Lord, ‘I will hear the plea of all the innocent people who have been murdered and I will take vengeance for what has been done to them.'”

2 Esdras 15

Wisdom’s Corner No. 39: A Tree and Its Fruit

“A healthy tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a poor tree bear good fruit.  Every tree is known by the fruit it bears; you do not pick figs from thorn bushes or gather grapes from bramble bushes.  A good person brings good out of the treasure of good things in his heart; a bad person brings bad out of his treasure of bad things.  For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

Luke 6

Wisdom’s Corner No. 38: A Time for Everything

“Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.

He sets the time for birth and time for death, the time for planting and the time for pulling up, the time for killing and the time for healing, the time for tearing down and the time for building.

He sets the time for sorrow and the time for mourning and the time for dancing, the time for making love and the time for kissing and the time for not kissing.

He sets the time for finding and the time for losing, the time for saving and the time for throwing away, the time for tearing and the time for mending, the time for silence and the time for talk.

He sets the time for love and the time for hate, the time for war and the time for peace.

What do we gain from all our work? I know the heavy burdens that God has laid on us.  He has set the right time for everything.  He has given us a desire to know the future, but never give us the satisfaction of fully understanding what he does.  So I realized that all we can do is be happy and do the best we can while we are still alive.  All of us should eat and drink and enjoy what we have worked for.  It is God’s gift.”

Ecclesiastes 3

Wisdom’s Corner No. 37: A Prayer for Forgiveness

Be merciful to me, O God, because of your constant love.  Because of your great mercy wipe away my sins!  Wash away all my evil and make me clean from my sin!

I recognize my faults; I am always conscious of my sins.  I have sinned against you–and done what you consider evil.  So you are right in judging me, you are justified in condemning me.  I have been evil from the day I was born; from the time I was conceived, I have been sinful.

Sincerity and truth are what you require; fill my mind with your wisdom.  Remove my sin, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whither than snow.  Let me hear the sound of joy and gladness; and though you have crushed me and broken me, I will be happy once again.  Close your eyes to my sins and wipe out all my evil.

Create a pure heart in me; O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me.  Do not banish me from your presence; do not take your holy spirit away from me.  Give me again the joy that come from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.  Then I will teach sinners your commands, and they will turn back to you.

Spare my life,  O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness.  Help me to speak, Lord and I will praise you.

You do not want sacrifices, or I would offer them; you are not pleased with burnt offerings.  My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God, you will not reject a humble and repentant heart…..”

Psalm 51
