LOVE SERIES #1: MY FIRST DATE WITH LOVE

MY FIRST DATE WITH LOVE!

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give your rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthews 12:28-30).

I began crying uncontrollably as I walk trembling toward Love’s outstretched arms.  It seemed to me that I would never reach Love.  “Almost there”, a sweet voice kept speaking to my heart, “Almost there”. My whole body was shaking and I thought my legs were going to collapse beneath me, but Love kept me strong and strengthen my legs and calmed my fears.  Now I was feeling a burst of joy! I had arrived in front of Love. There were also present a full Congregation of eyewitnesses, who can testify of  “My First Date with Love”.  I professed my heart to Love and He promised me that our dates would last for an eternity! How wonderful and kind Love is to me. “Never leave me Love and never forsake me,” I cried.  Love promised me, “For God so loved, the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. When Love spoke these words to my heart, I surrendered my soul to Him to seal for eternity.

Love had come to me on so many occasions and asked me to join Him.  Each time Love came in contact with me, He asked me over and over again to sit down with Him and have a talk with Him.  In fact, He was the most persistent pursuer I had ever encountered.  The strange thing is, I never became angry with His pursuit.  There was something so very kind and loving about His approach to my heart.  In fact, He made me feel special and necessary in every way.  Yet, I still continued to dodge His continuous invitations.

The determination that Love displayed for my affection was like no other suitor I ever experienced! He visited me in the most unexpected places.  Once when I was in the hospital recovering from a necessary surgery, there He was, standing beside the surgeon in the operating room watching over me.  I saw Him there before they put me asleep; and He was there when I awoke in the recovery room.  He spoke to me when I regained complete conscientiousness.  Love said, “I would love for you to join me for “A Great Supper”.  The compassion in Love’s eyes moved my heart.  But again, I did not accept Love’s invitation.  I made up an excuse and told Love I had other plans.  He smiled at me, and said “I will stay with you and keep you company while you recover”.  I did not reject His kindness because I knew Love really cared for me.  Even after I dismissed His proposal of love to me, he did not show any resentment toward me.  He continued to pursue my heart and I continued to reject Love’s advancements.

On another occasion when Love appeared unexpectedly, I was hungry and I didn’t have any money to purchase food.  I really did not believe I had anyone in the world to help me.  I was also very proud, and I did not reveal to anyone that my financial situation was desperate.   I was sitting in my little apartment, which was barely furnished, crying and asking the God who my grandmother told me about, to please help me because I was hungry.  After I wiped away my tears, I decided to take a walk.  As I was walking down the street, my eyes were drawn to an object on the ground.  It was a twenty dollar bill!  I picked it up and starting crying because I believed that God heard my prayer.  Again, I wiped the tears from my eyes and headed to market to get some food to eat.  While I was in the marketplace, I saw Love standing in the isle and He approached me and asked said me, “How would you like to join me for “A Great Supper?”  Now you would think that I would jump on the invitation, since I was starving to death! But again, I said “No, I have other plans”.  Like starving to death, I thought to myself.  He smile and said, “I’ll see you around”.  I finished my shopping and started on way back home.

Why was Love always around and especially at the most painful and lonely times in my life?  I dismissed the question and rushed home to cook and eat.  I checked the mailbox only to find more bills I couldn’t pay because I was out of work!  I took the mail and dropped it on my table and started cooking a much appreciated meal.  After completing my meal, I surveyed that I had enough food to last me for the week.  I also had enough money left for transportation to look for a job.  I was thankful and grateful to God for blessing me and hearing my prayer.

After I had cleaned up, I then opened my mail.  As I suspected, the mail was mostly bills, but there was also a letter from a firm that I had applied to for a job.  It was a job offer! What! I was so happy that I cried AGAIN! Good things were happening in life and I didn’t know why.  I never considered that it was Love who was lifting me.  I thought it was all me and my work and my diligence.  How could Love know what I was going through? Besides what had I ever done for Love? I accepted the job and I thought all my troubles were over. I wrong and Love came to my rescue again.

Financial security does not bring happiness or true love.  Prosperity also breeds despair.  I was despondent and lonely.  There was something still missing from life.  When I had money I did things with my time that led me in paths that were not responsible.  During one of my wayward outings, Love showed up and asked me to join Him for “A Great Supper”. I replied, “Look around you Love, I have all the food and drink I need right here! Why do I need to accept your invitation for “A Great Supper?”  “Jesus answered and said unto her, whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14).

Love had finally reached into my heart.  I decided that I would join Him for “A Great Supper”.  I said to Love, “IT’S A DATE!” Love told me that he had invited others and that I should join him at a place where many gathered all the time to celebrate His invitation to them.  I agreed to meet Love where He had appointed.  When I arrived at the meeting place, there were hundreds there and they were rejoicing and singing and thanking Love! I immediately started to cry, I don’t know why I was crying, I suppose it was because there was so much joy and love radiating in my heart.  I took a seat and listened to Love’s Words and they registered in my heart.  When Love had finished speaking to my soul.  He opened His arms and invited me to walk into His Love and take my rest from the world and trust in Him forever.  I stood and began to walk toward His loving arms!

This was My First Date with Love.  Love had always been there for me, even when I did not respond to His acts of kindness and generosity.  Love was there with me when I was sick and when I was hungry.  Love was my only friend when no one else cared whether I lived or died.  He lifted me when I could not see my way.  Love protected me when I was in the mist of danger unaware.  Love was always there for me and I did not acknowledge His love for me.  Now was the time for me to openly acknowledge Love and give Him the trust and honor He deserves!  Love has already seen the worst of me, now I want Love bring out the best in me. I gave my heart to Love and My First Date with Love was “Amazing Grace”.  He blessed me and He keeps me close to Him and “Love Lifted Me” and I am still having the time of my life with Love!!! Come to Jesus, it will be the best “First Date” you will ever have and it will never end!! God bless you! Amen!

LET NO MAN TAKE YOUR CROWN!

LET NO MAN TAKE YOUR CROWN

“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.  For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” (2 Peter 2: 20-21).

Greatness come through suffering. Greatness come from bearing or undergoing pain, distress and injury.  Greatness comes when we allow or permit a process of change to come about and we bear up under opposition.

The Epistle of 2 Peter is addressed to a wide circle of early Christians.  Its main concern is to combat the work of false teachers and the immorality, which results from such teaching.  The answer to these problems are found, and hold to the true knowledge of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Knowledge which has been conveyed by persons who themselves have seen Jesus and have heard him teach.

Many of the Christians were giving into the fleshly passions, such as, drunkenness, fornication, and adultery, etc.  Whatever bondage Jesus had delivered them from, they went back to it again, and they were worse off than they were originally. In other words, they had relapsed.

We have ministers who preach sermons that offer no correction or guidance, but only cooperative sermons, so no one is offended.  Peter call these pastors, “Waterless Springs” and “A Gloom of Darkness”.  These type of leaders flatter only to deceive.  Their teaching is a combination of egotism and ineffectiveness.  It was evil ambition.  They had covetous desires for money and for other people’s goods; lustful desire for unholy ambition, prestige and power.  False teaching comes from the desire to put one’s own ideas in the place of the truth of Jesus Christ; the false teacher is guilty of nothing less than of grabbing the place of Christ.

Any teaching which produces a person who discourages men from Christianity instead of attracting them to it, is false teaching, and the work of those are enemies of Christ. The end result of false teaching is destruction and losing their crown!

“Henceforth there is laid up for me a CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, which the Lord, the righteous Judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8).

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou had, that no man TAKE THY CROWN.” (Rev. 3:11).

Many who have been called by God to teach his Word have left the straight road and have gone on the path of corruption for profit, for money and fame.  These false teachers are prophets itching as the Prophet Balaam.  Out for what they could get and ready to exploit their membership of the church for gain.  False teachers and prophets seduce Christians from the Christian way, and causing them to break the pledges of loyalty they had given to Jesus Christ. The man who loves gain and who lures others to evil forever stands condemned. There are no short cuts to obtaining your CROWN!

A teacher without knowledge is like a well without water.  They promise a gospel and in the end have nothing to offer the thirty soul. Christian liberty always carriers danger.  Paul tells his people that they have indeed been called to liberty, but they must not use it for an occasion to the flesh. (Gal 5:13). Peter tells his people that they are indeed free, but they must not us their freedom as a cloak of maliciousness.  These false teachers offered freedom, but is was freedom to sin as much as they liked.  They appealed to the worst in man. The master of our souls…SIN!  These teachers were offering liberty when they themselves were slaves, and the liberty they were offering was the liberty to become slaves of lust.  Their message was arrogant because it was the contradiction of the message of Christ!

If they have once known Christ the real way of Christ and have relapsed into this, their case is even worse. (Matthew 12:45).  If a man has never known that right way, he cannot be condemned for not following it.  But, if a man has known it and then deliberately take them another way, he sins against the LIGHT; and it were better for him that he had never known the truth, for his knowledge of the truth has become his condemnation.

Be therefore always upon your guard, maintain a godly jealousy of yourselves, search the scriptures. Pray for the Spirit to instruct and establish you in the truth.  Walk humbly with God, and watch against everything that may provoke Him to give you up to a reprobate mind, that you may not be taken with the fair and incorrect pretenses of these false teachers. Those who promise liberty to all who will hearken unto them, are not true Christian liberty for the service of God.  They are deceiving spirits that will lead you straight to HELL!

Do not let lust and corruption still your CROWN.  False teachers are conquered and captivated by their spiritual enemies, and yield their members to be servants of unrighteousness.  Don’t be led away by the devil and his pleasures.  We must hide the Word of God in our heart to save us from the pollution of this world.  When a person turns away from righteousness, they are saying they have found a fault in God.  Satan is trying to recover those he has lost to God.  LET NO MAN TAKE YOUR CROWN! God bless you! Amen.

WHO’S LOVING YOU?

Written by Jessica L. Matthews

“Whoever does not love, does not know God, for God is love.”

(I John 4:8)

The words “I love you” are spoken so carelessly that the words carry no real power.  There is no celestial or godly attraction.  Because most of the time when we say “I love you”, there is a “But” or an “If” hanging in the balance. For example:

  • I love you, “But” if you gain weight my love for you will change.
  • I love you, “But” if you lose your job my love for you will change.
  • I love you, “But” if you go bald my love for you will change.
  • I love you, “But” if you don’t do as I say and be my slave, my love for you change.
  • I love you, “But” if you don’t get a college degree and become important and make me proud my love for you will change.
  • I love you, “But” if you get sick and become a burden to me, my love for you will change.
  • I love you preacher “But” if you preach and teach the truth and make me feel uncomfortable, my love for you will change.

I could go on and on.  My point is that the love we profess most of the time is based on conditions that satisfy our own soul and flesh.  These are the worldly and freshly natures that set conditions on what we call love.  Once these conditions are violated, love is gone.  This is not the love of God!  Love that is conditional is not love at all, it is a law and if a person is found guilty of violating the conditions of our love, then they are indicted.  Our conditional love renders a verdict of unworthy of our concept of love in the first degree.  This is not how God loves us.

GOD IS LOVE

A.W. Tozer wrote a book named, The Attributes of God.  He listed many of God attributes, his characteristics, qualifications, and God’s personality.  One of God’s attributes is LOVE.  Love is God’s personality and love is his nature.  We can always expect God to be a loving God.  It means that God is the summation, the absolute of all love, he is the fountain which love springs from.  Love comes from God and no other source.  He is the source of love!  He is the treasury of love.  He is the Fort Knox of love.  He is the very root of love.  God is the personification and the very essence of love.

God’s love conditions all of his other attributes, so that God can do nothing except to do everything in love.  His very motive is love.  His attribute of love is inseparable from his nature, his morals, his principles, his standards that governs his actions.  Even in the damning of a man is an expression of the love of God.  Because God loves JUSTICE!  Justice demanded a sacrifice and Jesus was the perfect sacrifice to satisfy Justice!

“God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

We are unworthy, but love, by grace saved us.  The love of God assuming the form of mercy.  Even when God chastises us, it’s in love.  Though we might think that he is cruel, he does it out of love for our best interest.

“My child pay attention when the Lord corrects you, and do not be discouraged when he rebukes you.  Because the Lord corrects everyone he loves, and punishes everyone he accepts as a child.”  (Hebrews 12:6).

WHO’S LOVING YOU IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP?

Domestic violence is always in the media; and it is a shameful thing that a person that swears that they love a person, beats the person close to death! Unfortunately, these horrific acts of so called love is getting progressively worst!

The abuser always say, “I love you”, “But” and he knocks the living daylights out of his wife.  “See what you made me do?” he shouts.  While his helpless victim is laying bloodied from head to toe on the floor or on the ground! The children are screaming for the abuse to stop, only to be abused themselves!

Then there’s the drug addict who always confess “I love you”, just before he needs his next fix! “But”, if you do not get him some money, he will steal everything you own, and he will not concern himself with your well-being.  Because his love is based on what you will do for him and his drug addiction.  Many drug addicts love their wives so much, that they pimp them out for that next fix! But he loves you as long as he can get that trip to nowhere!

Let’s not forget the poor man who loses his job, and he is unable to provide for his family.  Of course, this situation is serious. The family has to eat, and bills have to be paid.  Now where did the love go for the man who has always provided for his family?  He falls on hard times and now his wife has decided he is no longer a man!  She makes his days and nights a living hell.  Instead of praying for her husband; and cutting back on things and doing without for a while, until he can get back on his feet. “But”, instead she yells, “If you don’t take care of me, it’s over!”

How terrible it is when ungodly love is rendered.  This kind of love cannot endure the storms of life.  Only the love of God is able give you the strength to stand and weather the storms until your change come.  If you trust in ungodly love, I promise you, you will perish with the one who claims that “I love you”. This kind of love is not the love of God.  This is a weak, demonic love, untrustworthy and unfaithful love.

“Love suffers long and is kind, love is not envious, love is not puffed up, love do not behave itself unseemly, love is not easily angered, love does not think evil, love does not rejoice in sin, but rejoice in the truth, love bears all things, love believes all things, love endures all things, love never fails.” (I Cor. 13:4-6).

Human love, conditional love leaves a person injured and hopeless or dead.  Human love leaves a person broken and despondent, depressed and desperate.  Human love without the Holy Spirit leaves a person unable to love others unconditionally.

If you know that a man or woman loves you in Christ, you are not going to be afraid of them.  But if you are unsure of that person’s love, you are always going to be uptight and nervous. God’s love, which is true love, casts out all fear.  When we know we are loved, we are not troubled.  Whoever has God’s perfect love, fear is gone out of them.  All real fear goes when we know that God loves us.  Because fear comes when we’re in the hands of someone who does not will our good.

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love castest out fear.” (I John 4:18).

When my mother and father has forsaken me, Love will be my stead.  When everyone has left and I feel all alone, Love is always there.

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39).

Who‘s loving you with such a complete and unconditional love?  Calvary is a perfect love.  Jesus, the Christ, stretched out his arms on the cross and died because of his love for His Father.  God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth loves the world because he sent his only begotten Son that we may not perish, but have everlasting life! Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us in this troubling world and reminded us that is he is coming back again! This is perfect love, Jesus crucified, buried and resurrected! Who’s loving you?  I pray that it is THE FATHER AND THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT! Amen.

SPIRITUAL TRANSGRESSION

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24).

There is a story in the Bible about David and Bathsheba. (2 Samuel 11).  The story is about adultery and murder.  As we read the horrible transgression of David, we assume that this sin will certainly condemn David to eternal damnation; but King David repented and asked the Lord to forgive him for his transgression. The Lord forgave David, but there was still a consequence he paid for his action. Bathsheba had conceived a child during the time of David’s transgression; as a result the baby died a few days after its birth.  However, afterwards David married Bathsheba and she conceived another child and his name was Solomon, who became David’s successor and was appointed to the Kingship.

Yet, when we read in the book of Chronicles, the book of records, King David’s transgression with Bathsheba and the murdering of her husband, Uriah is not recorded.  In contrast, David took a census, numbering the people, which God considered a great offence and a Spiritual Transgression. How is this census transgression greater than the adultery and murder transgression? Well, the answer is because one transgression is on a spiritual level and the other is on a carnal level. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24).

The Bible is spiritual and God is a Spirit. God is concerned with a man’s heart and his deepest love that pertains to God’s will, power, authority and kingdom, “Only what you do for Christ will be counted”.  Our motives, and the results and the character of our actions.

Fleshly sins have to do with temporal things.  Such as, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness and reveling.” (Galatians 5:19-21).  All these thing have nothing to do with God’s kingdom.  “Such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21).  Judgment and condemnation is already here! “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”  (Romans 8:8).  No matter how great a person is in the flesh, it is already condemned. None of these fleshly acts are accredited by God because remember, God is a Spirit.  However, please don’t think that fleshly sins are overlooked by God because every individual’s works in his life will be judged before Christ.

More importantly, Spiritual Transgressions are a direct insult and violation to the Spirit and kingdom of God.  The spiritual man is the one who will be judged on Judgment Day.  “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”  (Galatians 6:8).  In other words, when a person spends all their life reaping in the flesh and not honoring God in Spirit and in truth, he will reap corruption. Fighting for gender rights for the flesh is corruption to God.  If a person spends his life following God’s Word and honoring God in spirit and in truth, he will reap everlasting life.

Look closer, David’s fleshly sin with Bathsheba is not even recorded, it has already been condemned by the Law. The flesh is judged by the Law. (Read Galatians 5:16-18). God does not take this matter up concerning Eternal Life.  The Spiritual man is judged by means of his heart! Whether it be wicked or righteous!  How are we measured in the Spirit?  We are measured by our fruits: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law.  These fruits can only be acquired in Christ.  So if one thinks he’s loving and good without the Holy Spirit he is deceiving himself. Only through repentance and being baptized in the Holy Spirit can these gifts be attained.

Satan is not concerned about our flesh sinning against God, but Satan is focused on our heart and our obedience to God. If our flesh rules our heart and not the Spirit of God, then we are judged under the law, which will condemn us to hell.  Satan’s objectivity is to get our minds and heart off of God and into sin and trouble.

Now, let’s turn our attention back to David’s Spiritual Transgression.  It seems harmless, doesn’t it?  What was the problem of taking a census?  Moses had taken a Census of the people on two occasions.  In the Book of Numbers we are told that Moses took a census at the beginning of the Wilderness March and at the end of the Wilderness March.  There was nothing wrong with that, at least God did not find fault with that.  But when King David took a census it is believed that the reason King David did this was because he was proud.  But we will examine this Spiritual Transgression closer.

Here’s where the Spiritual Transgression is performed, King David wanted statistics.  He was judging his power by statistics, and not by the power of God, which he was already dependent! David had always faithfully depended on God.  Now he’s counting how many warriors there are ready for battle among his people! Although pride could have been partly true, but it is not the total explanation of the transgression. “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glory in this, that he understand and know me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness.” (Jeremiah 9:23-24).  God was not please when David took a census because David was not delighting in the Lord; he was delighting in his own might.  The Spiritual Transgression that motivated David to number the people was the awful transgression of UNBELIEF.  David was trusting in numbers instead of trusting in God.

We do not need elaborate plans or depend on our own wisdom, because we have a Guide and Friend that will direct us as need requires, and if we acknowledge him in our ways he will make our path straight.  “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Cor. 12: 9-10).  When we disobey God’s plan and his grace and his power, we end up in failure.  People are trusting in the wrong people and the wrong things today.  David’s sin was UNBELIEF! It was in his heart and that is wicked in the sight of God. God is concerned with the heart and not the flesh! Many are an offence to God because their hearts are in the world and the lust thereof.

It’s really tragic when we point our fingers at fleshly sins, adultery, drunkenness, sexual sins, liar, murders, and so on.  But a person could walk into our Sunday Morning Service in UNBELIEF, and no one would be the wiser!  If this person’s UNBELIEF was known this would not be considered a serious matter! God is telling us that he considers UNBELIEF the most serious matter.

Satan is always behind unbelief.  It is the main reason why those who are fighting over GENDER MATTERS are so confident that God is not going to do anything to them.  They even attend service every Sunday. Their UNBELIEF is their SPIRITUAL TRANSGRESSION and this is what concerns God!  Satan puts UNBELIEF into the hearts and minds of the lost, so that they will not put their trust in God.  Satan is always urging them to put our trust in men and their laws, in armies, in money, in anything but God.

The flesh is under a set of laws.  The Spirit is under God’s commands.  David knew his God since he was a little shepherd boy tending to his father’s sheep.  He was a man after God’s own heart! Read the beautiful Psalms that David wrote.  He loved the Lord and he honored the Lord and he trusted the Lord! Then David violated a trust that he always had in God, he committed this Spiritual Transgression: “And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people.”  (2 Samuel 24:10).  Also, as a result of David’s Spiritual Transgression, thousand dies.  David knew his God.  He sees now what he has done.  He remembered how he had trusted God with five stones and a sling.  The God he trusted is all of his battles and victories.

Let us all understand the severity of Spiritual Transgressions. How many will die because of impatience and independence, self-will and lack of trust in God?  It is the worst offence to God.  It is written, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.  We must be assured in our faith in God because it is a great Spiritual Transgression to believe otherwise.  HAVE FAITH IN JESUS!

Amen and amen again!
