“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.  For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” (2 Peter 2: 20-21).

Greatness come through suffering. Greatness come from bearing or undergoing pain, distress and injury.  Greatness comes when we allow or permit a process of change to come about and we bear up under opposition.

The Epistle of 2 Peter is addressed to a wide circle of early Christians.  Its main concern is to combat the work of false teachers and the immorality, which results from such teaching.  The answer to these problems are found, and hold to the true knowledge of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Knowledge which has been conveyed by persons who themselves have seen Jesus and have heard him teach.

Many of the Christians were giving into the fleshly passions, such as, drunkenness, fornication, and adultery, etc.  Whatever bondage Jesus had delivered them from, they went back to it again, and they were worse off than they were originally. In other words, they had relapsed.

We have ministers who preach sermons that offer no correction or guidance, but only cooperative sermons, so no one is offended.  Peter call these pastors, “Waterless Springs” and “A Gloom of Darkness”.  These type of leaders flatter only to deceive.  Their teaching is a combination of egotism and ineffectiveness.  It was evil ambition.  They had covetous desires for money and for other people’s goods; lustful desire for unholy ambition, prestige and power.  False teaching comes from the desire to put one’s own ideas in the place of the truth of Jesus Christ; the false teacher is guilty of nothing less than of grabbing the place of Christ.

Any teaching which produces a person who discourages men from Christianity instead of attracting them to it, is false teaching, and the work of those are enemies of Christ. The end result of false teaching is destruction and losing their crown!

“Henceforth there is laid up for me a CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, which the Lord, the righteous Judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8).

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou had, that no man TAKE THY CROWN.” (Rev. 3:11).

Many who have been called by God to teach his Word have left the straight road and have gone on the path of corruption for profit, for money and fame.  These false teachers are prophets itching as the Prophet Balaam.  Out for what they could get and ready to exploit their membership of the church for gain.  False teachers and prophets seduce Christians from the Christian way, and causing them to break the pledges of loyalty they had given to Jesus Christ. The man who loves gain and who lures others to evil forever stands condemned. There are no short cuts to obtaining your CROWN!

A teacher without knowledge is like a well without water.  They promise a gospel and in the end have nothing to offer the thirty soul. Christian liberty always carriers danger.  Paul tells his people that they have indeed been called to liberty, but they must not use it for an occasion to the flesh. (Gal 5:13). Peter tells his people that they are indeed free, but they must not us their freedom as a cloak of maliciousness.  These false teachers offered freedom, but is was freedom to sin as much as they liked.  They appealed to the worst in man. The master of our souls…SIN!  These teachers were offering liberty when they themselves were slaves, and the liberty they were offering was the liberty to become slaves of lust.  Their message was arrogant because it was the contradiction of the message of Christ!

If they have once known Christ the real way of Christ and have relapsed into this, their case is even worse. (Matthew 12:45).  If a man has never known that right way, he cannot be condemned for not following it.  But, if a man has known it and then deliberately take them another way, he sins against the LIGHT; and it were better for him that he had never known the truth, for his knowledge of the truth has become his condemnation.

Be therefore always upon your guard, maintain a godly jealousy of yourselves, search the scriptures. Pray for the Spirit to instruct and establish you in the truth.  Walk humbly with God, and watch against everything that may provoke Him to give you up to a reprobate mind, that you may not be taken with the fair and incorrect pretenses of these false teachers. Those who promise liberty to all who will hearken unto them, are not true Christian liberty for the service of God.  They are deceiving spirits that will lead you straight to HELL!

Do not let lust and corruption still your CROWN.  False teachers are conquered and captivated by their spiritual enemies, and yield their members to be servants of unrighteousness.  Don’t be led away by the devil and his pleasures.  We must hide the Word of God in our heart to save us from the pollution of this world.  When a person turns away from righteousness, they are saying they have found a fault in God.  Satan is trying to recover those he has lost to God.  LET NO MAN TAKE YOUR CROWN! God bless you! Amen.
