“For if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.” (Matthews 6:23).

“The eye is the window of the soul.” When want to read a person, just look into their eyes.  Most of the time you will find the answers, without the person speaking a single word.  The easiest read is when we see genuine tears flowing from someone’s eyes. Tears immediately alerts us to the fact, that this person’s heart has been injured in some emotional way.  It is not too often that a person is crying because they are overjoyed! No, it’s usually because something tragic or disappointing have occurred. What about those eyes that avoid contact?  Those are the shameful and deceitful eyes. Then there are those fiery red eyes that display sickness or evil.  Let’s take a closer look and the wicked and Evil Eye. The eye that craves for things that are to be used wrongfully. The Evil Eye which covets power, riches and lust; and will stop at nothing to acquire these possessions. This is the EVIL EYE of covetousness, which can never be satisfied, as it desires all it sees!

The uncontrollable Evil Eye has destroyed governments, civilizations, families and mankind.  Covetousness is a fleshly and evil spiritual worker, and its lusts are destructive to man’s soul.  The Evil Eye is fueled by greed and envy, and it drives a man to commit unthinkable crimes against himself and his fellowman.  “If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:23b). All over the world there are high profile religious leaders, political leaders and famous people that are being convicted of corruption, sexual misconduct, embezzlement, murder and crimes against humanity. Why? Because they have an Evil Eye! They did not, and do not have the ability to master their cravings for power, worldly riches and lust! The Evil Eye wants all it sees, and there is no restraint.  King David had to have Bathsheba, although he clearly knew she was another man’s wife! He had many wives and many concubines; the Evil Eye was not satisfied with what he had. “Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.” (Pro. 27:20). The insatiable desire for lust, power and riches will surely lead a man to his destruction.  “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” (Mark 7:23).

There is a real battle being waged from the cradle called, “Gimme and I want.” This is where it begins.  Where there is no teaching about covetousness. On the contrary, we are taught from the cradle to be successful, so we can have everything our eyes see.  Parents sacrifice their homes and the health, so that their children can have everything that will lead them straight to hell! Parents give the Gimmes and I want’s everything they feel their sweet little ones should have.  Never realizing that they are building souls of spiritual covetousness! These Gimmes out-grow their parent’s pocketbooks, the Evil Eye sees more and lusts after more! What now? Because now the devil is bombarding your little Gimmes, with greater desirers for riches.  The Gimme who has become a judge and is now corrupting justice by accepting bribes, which is one of the primary causes of social injustice!  The Gimme who has become a politician is violating the laws of the land.  The Gimme who has become a doctor, now has an addiction and is selling prescription drugs to feed his drug habit; not to mention their probably killing patience in the operating room! Parents stop giving your children everything they want; and begin teaching about the sins and pitfalls of covetousness. Look at our leaders now, and their degraded moral values, and open corruptions that are on public display.  It is all stemming from the sin of the Evil Eye of covetousness!

Sadly, Many Christians are so concerned about accumulating wealth and material goods, they have discarded the giver of good gifts: “Do not be deceived, my dear friends! Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning” (James :1:17). Why are God’s people bending their knees to idols, to acquire something that can possibly lead their souls to hell? The Evil Eye is causing many of God’s people to stray from the fold of God to acquire the world’s goods! I have learned from the advertising business, the many methods that are used to entice people into believing they need this or that. The advertisers convince the Evil Eye, if you want to live in the world, you must be this or that.  Foolishly, many of God’s people rush to purchase items that are never going to satisfy their souls. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto.” (Matthews 6:33).

Oh yes, I know, what are we to do about the Evil Eye, you ask? Well, first Christians must understand that God is spirit, and it is there, in the spiritual that we must seek the remedy. The Lord knows his children’s needs and he wants to supply them.  To have his children in poverty brings no glory to him for his words says: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2). Okay, that’s God’s heart, you say! Well, the Christian’s part is to love God in spirit and in truth. Also to see that your soul prospers; then God will do his part. God is concerned with our soul, the eternal. Yes, the Lord will provide all that we need, but we must come to God with a repentive heart. Unfortunately, this is the reason God does not answer many prayers: “You want things, but you cannot have them, so you are ready to kill; you strongly desire thing, you cannot get them, so you quarrel and fight.  You do not have what you want because you do not ask God for it.  And when you ask, you do not receive it, because your motives are bad; you ask for things to use for your own pleasures.” (James 4:1-3). The Evil Eye is only about self-gratification and nothing else. The Evil Eye is an assault on the soul. The Evil Eye must be removed through prayer and plucked out through repentance (Matthew 5:29). Thereby, the eye that is the window of the soul, is squeaky clean and washed in the blood of Jesus Christ!

For the record, this is written to encourage everyone to SEE the sacrifice of Jesus Christ with a perfect 20/20 vision of love. God bless you and amen!
